Festive Programme Announced for 2025
This year, we welcome five festive shows to the Town Hall, in addition to the usual Christmas market, starting with the pantomime, Cinderella. The pantomime is a tradition that Silsden Community Productions has been holding at the Town Hall for nine years, and we're delighted to welcome them once again for three nights this December. Cinderella: The Pantomime Follow Cinderella as she tries to escape her life of chores and cruelty, helped along the way by her Fairy Godmother and some well-placed panto magic. There’ll be toe-tapping songs, light-hearted comedy, and all the classic pantomime moments for you to boo and cheer along to. This warm, family-friendly show full of fun, laughter, and festive spirit is the perfect way to step into Christmas. Christmas with Bradford Concert Band Saturday 13th December After performing live beneath screenings of The Snowman at Silsden Town Hall last Christmas, Bradford Concert Band return to play a selection of festive music in their 50th anniversary year. Tribute to the Jersey Boys Saturday 13th December Following three back-to-back sell-out performances, a Tribute to The Jersey Boys returns to Silsden Town Hall this Christmas. You can expect to be singing along to the hits of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, including "Beggin'", "Working My Way Back to You", "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Oh What a Night". Immaculately costumed, the boys offer a show that faithfully recreates the tracklist of the multi-award-winning Broadway musical, The Jersey Boys, music that has been the soundtrack to our lives for over half a century. This all-singing, all-dancing show will have you tapping your feet and shuffling in the aisles. Tribute to Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra Saturday 20th December Step into a timeless holiday celebration, where the enchanting melodies of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra come alive once more. This elegant tribute captures the magic and sophistication of the legendary crooners, transporting you to an era of velvety vocals and effortless charm. Revel in the nostalgia of beloved Christmas classics, artfully performed with the same charisma and warmth that made Dean and Frank iconic. An Astronomer's Guide to The Star of Bethlehem: The Silsden Christmas Lecture 2025 Sunday 21st December Almost everyone has heard of the Star of Bethlehem. It’s a massive part of the classic Christmas story, right up there with donkeys and shepherds. But what was it, actually? A miracle sent from above? A complete myth? Or could it have been a real celestial event that an astronomer could explain? Well, we're about to get some answers. The renowned astronomer Martin Lunn is heading to Silsden Town Hall to give a special festive talk on this very subject. He’ll be presenting “An Astronomer’s Guide to The Star of Bethlehem". Welcome to Yorkshire says "It sounds like a perfect pre-Christmas treat". Last year, we played host to four wonderful festive shows. At the end of November, Humpty Dumpty the Pantomime took over Silsden Town Hall for three nights, attended by almost 500 people. At the beginning of December, touring theatre group The Telling presented What the Dickens, a twist on Charles Dickens' classic, a Christmas Carol. Bradford Concert Band joined us ahead of the Tractor Run to perform The Snowman to a screening of the classic film. Finally, last weekend Alan Beck returned with a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Last year's pantomime was the eighth annual edition produced by Silsden Community Productions. Humpty Dumpty, a traditional family pantomime, was written by Bob Heather and Cheryl Barrett, and produced by Silsden Community Productions in association with Silsden Town Hall. Silsden Community Productions are always looking for people to help make their spectacular pantomimes and productions even better. The Friends of Silsden Town Hall are also in need of regular volunteers to keep their annual programme of events running. If you can help, please get in touch by emailing welcome@silsdentownhall.org.uk to let us know what you’re interested in. Photographer David Wright captured last year's pantomime as part of his new photography series on community pantomimes.

The Friends of Silsden Town Hall Win 'Social Enterprise of the Year' 2025
Silsden Town Hall is proud to have won the Social Enterprise of the Year Award at the Keighley and Airedale Business Awards 2025. This award celebrates a social enterprise that has created a positive social or environmental impact within the community with a focus on doing good over profit, and reinvesting profits to do good. The award ceremony took place on Friday 26th September at Victoria Hall in Keighley, and was hosted by BBC Look North's Paul Hudson. In attendance were the mayor of Keighley, Chris Herd, and local MP Robbie Moore. Trustee of The Friends of Silsden Town Hall and former chairman of the trustees, Paul Kilgallon, accepted the award on behalf of the Town Hall. In his acceptance speech, Paul dedicated the award to the extensive teams of volunteers that support the charity. "We could talk about the trading income, operating income and profit, but the truth is, an operation like ours takes a massive volunteer effort, and we have three groups in particular who do a really massive job for us. We have a group of ladies who feed the over-75s in Silsden twice a year. We feed 160 people, and they organise everything; they're absolutely brilliant. We have the History Group, who run the Silsden Archive and buy art from recognised Silsden artists and put it on display. Then we have the bar team, who look after the very commercial part of our business, which is how we make the bulk of our money, and without them, we simply couldn't do what we do. So I'd like to dedicate this award to our volunteers. They're brilliant." - Paul Kilgallon The Friends of Silsden Town Hall has been a charity for almost ten years, since it took over the building from the council in 2017. Since then, it has continued to deliver its mission, "to promote the health and well-being of the residents of Silsden and the surrounding area through the provision of facilities which encourage educational, sporting, and social recreational activities in Silsden Town Hall for all age groups." , mirroring the original message set out by Lord Hothfield 130 years ago. "This building is not for this generation only but it is intended to go down future generations for the cultural enrichment of the community." - Lord Hothfield Silsden Town Hall continues to serve the people of Silsden, and is served by the people of Silsden. Every class you take part in, concert you attend, room you hire, and engagement you have with Silsden Town Hall helps us to keep its doors open. It is a community effort, maintained by a team of dedicated volunteers, who we are pleased to recognise in the receipt of this award.
